SEASIDE HAVEN (Bakoven)

Among the charming seaside bungalows of the exclusive Bakoven area is Seaside Haven, right on the water’s edge. There are few places in the world that can compare with this villa’s location and aspect.

Seaside Haven was originally a fisherman’s cottage where abundant lobster and abalone were collected from the rock pools in the early morning. Today the beach in front of the house is a protected area, however guests can still enjoy the fresh ocean air, beautiful sea views and gorgeous Cape Town sunsets.

The villa has undergone a transformation since its humble beginnings; the most recent renovation was completed in 2010 by world famous Turkish architect Ali Kemali and the interiors were created by revered interior designer, Yelda Bayakatar. However, the house is protected by the City Council meaning the foundation and envelope of the house have remained mostly unchanged.

Entering the villa one is struck by the breathtaking views of the ocean, and opening the stackable glass doors fills the house with the sounds and smells of the ocean.

The luxury open-plan kitchen overlooks the living room area, and then straight out to sea. A large dining room table comfortably seating a party of eight is perfectly positioned below the exquisite chandeliers. The second bedroom and study with computer facilities are also located on the top floor.

The spectacular master bedroom on the lower level has a large bed next to a gas fireplace, and an open plan bathroom with an oval bath and enormous double shower. The stackable glass doors directly in front of the bed open onto the pool deck, metres away from the ocean.

The swimming pool and little garden are all that separate Seaside Haven from a little patch of beach and the Atlantic Ocean.

The shops, buzzing restaurants and bars, and famous beach of Camps Bay are a short distance down the road from Bakoven, and the beautiful beach at Llandudno is a short drive in the other direction.

Of course, being called "Seaside Haven", one would expect a sea view but nothing prepared me for the quite breathtaking ocean vistas that the enormous glass windows and doors provided. The villa is literally just a few metres away from the Atlantic Ocean and is designed to maximize the powerful sights and sounds of the sea. Everything about Seaside Haven is luxurious and state-of-the-art, from the beautiful Axor faucets, to the trendy Russell Hobbs kitchen appliances, to the cleverly recessed lighting, to the magnificent chandeliers, to the house-wide sound system and convenient WiFi Internet access. “We had a wonderful time at Seaside Haven. It's obviously in an incredibly unique location, what with the waves of the Atlantic crashing at the foot of the bed! We cooked in most nights and took advantage of the kitchen and braai. We were out exploring the Cape Peninsula during the day, so we really weren't around then. But we would enjoy cocktails on the deck in the late afternoon, watching the show going on in the ocean. It was a magnificent place to stay in an incredible part of the world. The memories will last a lifetime. Your staff was great, particularly Gaby and Matthew. I'm sure it's trying sometimes dealing with all those different people from different cultures, maybe being asked the same questions, all the time.
